Changes made to layout (Elizabeth Mensah-Tandoh)

Georgia made a change to the layout of our blog. The reason for this was,our previous blog layout was not appearing when being looked at,which made it appear dull and a bit boring. However Georgia looked at various websites that have a wide range of different layout designHowever after looking, She finally found one we all thought would be be most appropriate. When looking at the layout designs Georgia had to ensure they fitted the genre of our film. There font was simple and easy to read. And that all of our group thought it would fit our blog. And this was the layout design we thought would be good for our blog.

Influences (Georgia Harris)

The film Vertigo directed by Alfred Hitchcock (Master of suspense) (1958) gave our group a influence in a sense of suspicion and suspense that we wanted to portray in the making of our film, in majority of his films they all base around psychological thrillers and work around the audience feeling clueless as to what is happening and a constant feel of suspense and a feeling of what now?
We feel that our film is also based around 3 main ingredients similar to those used in Hitchcock's films, such as suspense, suspicion and confusion. Always focusing on making the audience wonder what's going to happen next and why.

Another film that influenced our trailer was Red Eye directed by Wes Craven (2005).
This film was an influence by it portraying that sense of the plot having a twist to it, expecting the unexpected in a sense that the main female character in Red Eye didn't expect to be put in serious danger by a fellow passenger on her flight, so the the action starts from the twist in the story. This reflects on the plot for our trailer, in the sense that the audience aren't expecting the story to unfold in the way it does, creating a twist withing the least expected in the way that Wes Craven does in this film.

Our Final Film Opening

Opening Sequence Music (Audrey Khanye)

This is the score music i chose to use in our opening sequence. As editor i had to find music to include in our film, as i was in the process of editing, i had to pick music that went along with the events taking place in the different scenes. I felt that this music created a feeling of suspense and mystery so our audience are always anxious and expect the worst. Demon house by Audrey

Weather Conditions (Georgia Harris)

This was the outlook for local weather on our day of filming,we had to find out specific conditions so we would know if it would still be possible to go ahead with the filming or not, as we would be taking the camera equipment outside. So in case rain or snow had been broadcast for Tuesday 9th March. Luckily enough the weather for our filming date was sunny intervals and therefore we could go ahead with the filming.

Weekly Updates (Week 10) (Elizabeth Mensah-Tandoh)

Today i have have adding last minutes things to our blog. Looking at our blog overall as a whole. Ensuring we have all the information that is needed. Looking at every post made individually, and going over and bits i feel that may have been left out.I have been added more of our posted to the software Scribd.

Although my whole group is not with me today.I have been contacting one of my group Georgia (Director) member throughout. Asking her any questions that i am unsure of.

Overall today has just been me looking over our blog.To see if any areas could be improved before the deadline.

Meeting Minutes ( Elizabeth Mensah-Tandoh )

On the 5th of March we had another meeting.Which took place in one of the lesson that we had.We spoke as a group about when we will be filming, the different roles each of use would have while we film.We arranged a set day and time of where we should be filming. What loactions and what equipment will be needed. We also planned to book a camera for the 9th of March. And a esitmated time of how long we would film each scene for.So that our time was managed well and had enough time to get everything done.

It was a very quick meeting that last for about 7 minutes. However Georgia as the director as the group felt it was important for us to know what each of us will be doing. And so that on the filming day we could get straight down to filming without having to ask any questions of what each of us would be doing.

Filming Journal (Director Georgia Harris)

Our filming eventually took place on the 09/03/2010 as planned.

Cast and Group members present: At the time of filming there was myself, Elizabeth and Audrey the group members and the only cast at the time was the lady playing the Antagonist Jo.
We

Location: We began the filming inside of B block, along the corridors. We then moved to outside of the college, located in the staff car park.

What we filmed? We managed to film our whole 2 minute trailer sequence, correcting certain scenes that weren't right. So we filmed the scenes where the protagonist and antagonist first met, right up until the twist in the narrative and the ending.

Problems: During the evening of filming we encountered quite a few problems, like one of our main cast members wasn't available to film on our set date, so we had to change our cast members and instead i had to feature in the film, these cause a delay in the filming and also caused us the problem of having to change our cast photo's and the other information we had put on the blog based on the original cast member.
We eventually solved this problem by having to improvise and actually have a member of our group be a main character in the film.

From a director's point of view i found our evening of filming a bit hectic at first due to the change of actor and the slight change in the synopsis of the film too. Once we were all clear of what and how things were going to happen it made me a lot more focus and aware of what the filming would involve and what every one's roles were.
Overall i felt that our filming went really, and that we got a lot done in the short amount of time we had, i also felt that us as a group cooperated well, in providing help and direction to one another and by doing this we were able to keep on track with the time limit. Throughout the filming i think that we overcome our problems quickly and used our initiative's well due to the complete turn around in our synopsis and the cast members.

Filming Journal (Camera Elizabeth Mensah-Tandoh)

Location
Our filming was taken place in Havering college.During the pre-production we took some pictures of the set location and posted them on the blog.

Group Members Present

Audrey Khanye (Editor)
Elizabeth Mensah (Camera woman)
Georgia Harris ( Director,cast memeber)
Jo (Cast member)

As i was the camera person i felt it was important for me to make sure i was there to collect the camera equitment that was needed in order for us to film. The plan ws for the group and cast members to meet outside the entrance of the college at 5:00PM.The first place we planned to film was in another area of the college. However we still needed to wait for Audrey one of our group members to arrive as she was running late. However wee still decided to continue getting ready to film.As when she does finally arrive the director (Georgia) or myself (Camera person) could inform her of what was next and what we she needed to next and how she could help.
Audrey arrived just in time before we had began to film.
The first place we filmed was in B block. This wasnt the oringal plan to film in B block. However we as a group thought that it would be better for us as the lighter was much better, and also gave up more space to move around and was nearer to the other areas that we wanted to film in.Such as the car park. The filming was easy to do.We was able to accomplish all the filming in one night.Which helped as it gives us more time to spend on our evlauation. The second place that we filmed was in one of the corridors in B block and also the elevator. The third being outside in the college car park.It was the most challenging place to film as it was dark and very cold.As it was very cold it was hard for all of us to concerntrate on anything else. However it was important for us to get everything right the first time as it weould prevent us from having to repeat anything again.

Promblems The Occured And How They Were Resolved

The first problem that occured was one of the cast members was unable to arrive as she had her own personal problems. So we decided to use another actress. Our director (Georgia)Which made things better for us as she was able to direct and give instructions of how things should be.
The second was one of the tripod stopped working. It was not staying straight and made the camera look as if it was not able to focus properly. So we had to change the tripod with a another one.Which delayed filming. As we had to ask and wait for our media teacher to open the cupboard with all the equitment. However when we did finally get a new tripod and continue filming.
Another problem was other groups filming outside. As other media groups were also filming there opening sequence the same time as ours. They got in the way when we was filming. There use of prop (A car) The head lights of the car at time shone on thE camera. So we had to once or twice cut and begin again. But when we kindly asked them to give us time to film this short scene so we would soon be out of there way. They were understanding and gave us time to finish the scene.

Conclusion
Overall i feel the filming was a great success as we were able to film everything in one day,and did not have to come back to correct our mistakes.I feel this was because everyone in our group gave 100 percent to the filming and was a great helped and gave suggestion to problems when they occured.Everyone in the group helped with everything aswell as everyone having a job to do.Audrey listening to the noises and what could be heared on the camera.Georgia was the director and the actress which meant she had the one of the hardest jobs as she had to concertrate on two things at once. And myself the camera person.Although i was behind the camera.I had to have a lot of patience when things went wrong. Also having to position the camera in various different angles so we were able to get a range of different shots. We all put a lot of hard work and dedication into the filming and that is what made it such as success.

Weekly Updates (8-9) (Elizabeth Mensah-Tandoh)

This week has been one of the most challenging weeks so far as we have have had to make changes to the original plans made. However we were able to over come them.As we filmed for the first time this week. And was successful as we did everything correctly. After that night of filming we were able to getting read to begin editing. And this was done by Audrey. The same day and the following day she finished editing the whole filming sequence and added score music to it.And we feel as a group that it looks good and do not need to added anymore to it or that it needs anymore addjustments.

The next week we are hoping to post our film onto our blog, make questionnaires and ask similar people we are targeting to ask them answer questions and get to their opinions on what they think of about film.

Filming Journal (Editor Audrey Khanye)

Location
The location of our film is in Havering college. The different scenes of the film took place in B block and also the teacher car-park. During the pre-production we took some pictures of the set location and posted them on the blog. However due to the change of plans we have to take new pictures and upload them on to our blog.

Group members present

What was filmed?
2nd march
today we had planned to film, to prepare for this Georgia took a callsheet to book out the camera equipment so there wouldn't be any clashes, as there are many other students filming at this time. However we had to reschedule because our case members were unable to make it.

9th march
Today was the day that we were finally able to film. A few problems occurred as we were about to start filming like a missing cast member, and a change in our location however as a group we were able to come up with a solution and we went on to film. When we filmed the car park scene it was a bit difficult due to the weather being really cold and windy, however we were able to get it done.

problems occurred?
Change of plans-initially our director had found a cast member (Sheena) to play the role of Natalie the innocent antagonist, as we felt that she was suited to play the part. However due to other commitments Sheena was unable to make on the the day that we were due to film, so we were in a bit of a pickle about where we were going to find our second cast member at such short notice. At last we came up with a solution Georgia, our director was going to play the part that Sheena was supposed to play as she also fitted the description of a typical white female college student . We also had to change the location of our film from H to B block as the lighting in H block was more limited than the light in B block. We needed more lighting in order to film the scene that took place inside the college building. The change in the location and cast also means that we have to make alterations on our blog as we have already posted up some pictures of the old location. Adding to that we also had to change our 90 minute synopsis as we decided to change our story line.

Overall turn out
The overall turn out of our filming was good despite the problems that had occurred at the last minute. We worked well as a group and we were able to rectify any issues. Even though we had different roles(as group members) we were able to help each other out .

Meeting Minutes ( Elizabeth Mensah-Tandoh )

Today in class we had a group discussion about our filming date.We spoke about all the equipment that will be needed when filming. And how we plan to use our time appropriately when so we can film to the best of our ability. We have planned to film on Tuesday the 10th of March at 5:00pm.However we will be meeting at 4:30pm which allows us to have enough time to finish the previous lesson we were in, meet up,get all the equipment ready and begin. We feel this was the best time to film as it is the beginning of the week and if any other adjustments are need to be made it can quickly be arranged.

Friday 5 March 2010

Score Music (Georgia Harris)

This is the software we will be using when choosing our score music that will be within our trailer. The type of music will be using will be a mixture of quiet music to start, which gradually goes higher in pitch to create tension and build suspense.
The music will be very typical of a thriller, enticing the audience and creating a scary atmosphere.

Weekly Updates (6-7) (Elizabeth Mensah-Tandoh)

This week a lot has changed. The first being a new member to the group.Elizabeth.The reason for this because the previous group member was not meeting deadlines and us unable to catch up with work that needed to be handed in. The two group members that are left feel that Elizabeth is more reilable and will be able to make deadlines.

We have carried on with the work we are meant to do regardless of the changes we have made to our group.Above is a picture of Audrey on one of the days that we have put in some extra hours so we make sure that we are not kept behind, and to ensure that our work is up to date.A nd meet our finally deadline on the 21st of March.

Friday 26 February 2010

Call Sheet (Georgia Harris )

This is the call sheet we will be using when we have taken out the equipment and are ready to film. As i am the director i will be filling in 3 call sheets for each member of our group and handing them out on the day of filming. These sheets enable us to know where and when we are exactly filming and in case of any emergencies the numbers we will need to contact and the people we would need to inform.

Rules and Regulations When Filming ( Elizabeth Mensah-Tandoh )

The 30° rule is a basic film editing guideline that states the camera should be moved at least 30° between shots of the same object. This change of perspective makes the shots and angels different enough to avoid a jump cut.

The 180° rule another guideline that should be followed when film making that says that two characters (or other elements) in the same scene should always have the same left/right relationship to another. If the camera passes over the imaginary axis connecting the two objects or subjects,it is called crossing the line. The new shot, from the opposite side, is known as a reverse angle

Storyboard Pictures

Story board ( Elizabeth Mensah-Tandoh)

As nobody in the group are good drawers. We came up with the idea of taking photos with a digital camera.By doing this it was allow us to take photos from different angles and potential shots we may be able to use when we eventually film. They are many advantages to this as it is time affiant than drawing a picture out on a piece of paper. The Storyboard entails us to tell a story with a number of sequential images with consideration for scene detail, character continuity, camera angles, special effects. However because we are taking pictures of our storyboard instead of drawing. There will not be as much detail than if it was done by drawing as you are able to add more detail to it. Although we may change the angles we want when filming, it gives us a plan we can go with when filming. But if they are any changes made when filming when will ensure they are noted down and given a reason behind the reason this was done and how it has helped by making this changes.

Change of Plans ( Elizabeth Mensah-Tandoh)

So today i have taken the opportunity to get some theory work done. Making sure that certain things are added to our blog,Making sure things are up to date and adding more to the blog.

Here is a picture of Audrey on one of the days that we spent more time on the blog.As we was unable to film.

Group Logo ( Audrey Khanye )

This is a logo that i created for our film production and blog. I chose to name this logo 'Twisted' as i feel that this name is a reflection of our storyline. This logo also suits our thriller genre as the killers, kidnappers and stalkers state of mind in thrillers seem to be twisted and disturbed, when they act violently and unremorsefully against their victims. I chose this colour skeem as i feel it coincides with the colours of our blog.

Production Brief (Georgia Harris)

Project name: The Replacement (Thriller 2 Minute Trailer)

Length: 1min to 2 min

Deadline: 31st March 2010

Group members & their roles: Georgia Harris(Director), Audrey Khayne(Editor) and Elizabeth Mensah-Tandoh(Camera Person)

Brief overview of content (approx 50 words):

Target audience (age group, gender bias (if any), socio-economic status and lifestyle profiling): Our target audience is teenagers aged 16+, it isn’t typically aimed at a particular gender, and we would say our trailer would be aimed at people of working class.

What comparable products have you researched?
We have looked into other thriller film's for our coursework, looking at codes and conventions of them and how we can interpret certain aspects of them into our film.

What is the rationale behind this text?
Our film will be portraying a sense of suspense and twist, by which the audience will not be expecting the things to happen that do. So overall we want to make the audience feel shocked and left wondering what happened.

What representations will be operating in your text? Are these justified?
We will be using the everyday representations of teenagers in our film, the typical everyday college student. We will also be going against the usual representation of disabled people as our actor who will be playing the disabled character will in fact cause the twist in our film, and go from playing the protagonist to the antagonist who goes from being seen as the good and innocent person to the bad and in fact main perpetrator of the story.

How will you test whether the product is successful?
We will be publishing 2 questionnaire's for the audience to fill in, also have set up a facebook page in order to gain feedback and let us know where and if we need change things and how.

How will you check that it accomplishes the intended effect?
We will look through our finished film and also get other members of our class to judge if our film fits into the criteria that we set from the beginning.

What generic codes and conventions will be operating in your text?
We will be using things such as typical camera shots and movements used to create suspense, such as close ups of the character's, quick cuts and low angle shots.
Also we will be using the sound to create the suspense too, things like jumpy music, music that starts off quiet and builds up throughout until the end where the usual main piece of action occurs.

What are the overt (obvious) messages incorporated into the text?
The obvious messages portrayed in our film will be the dark and empty setting in which its been filmed, also our genre is obvious, this is shown through the settings and the actors used.

Are there any (hidden) messages incorporated into the text?
The hidden messages are the twist at the end of the film, when the audience are least expecting it. When the disabled character actually turns out not to be disabled.

Identify any resource constraints (time, money, equipment, human resources) that might affect your production and your hopes for your product: Some constraints we have encountered are human resources, not having the desired actors to play certain roles, also given the time limit, things haven’t always gone to plan due to last minute adjustments to the group and the work being produced within.

Additional notes:

Weekly Updates (Week 5-6) (Georgia Harris)

This week we got all the cast notes/location notes and pictures done and uploaded.
We also completed our script and published it to our blog. We are currently trying to complete our storyboard in order to start filming next week within the half term.
Our main focus now is to finish the last bit of our planning paper work and get started quickly on our practical part of the coursework or filming, editing then eventually evaluating.

Wednesday 10 February 2010

Final Location Notes (Elizabeth Mensah-Tandoh)

There has been some slight changes to the locations that our group will be filming at.We will still be located in the college. However we will be filming in a different area to the college. The reason for this is because the lighting in the other located area is not very bright. As well as at the time of filming. There will be to many people around. So we felt as a group that this was the best place to film.

The location that we have chosen to film our two minute opening sequence to a thriller is in the college inside the building inside the corridor as the women is walking out of her class. The reason for this is for the audience to have a clear view of where the women is located and what is happening.

This is the second place. The reason we choose to film in a lift was becauseit make our film realstic. As we have a disabled women in the film.It makes the film more likely to believe. As if we were to film the disabled women walking down the stairs, the storyline will not make sense to the audience.

This is another picture of the lift.We will just be filming when the actress come out the lift. This is just a follow up and so that it makes sense to the audience.

The four picture is when they come out of the building.Which is another follow up for the audience to hae a full understanding of where they are going. This also leads us to outside to the next location of where filming will take place.

The last place that we will be filming is at the car park. This is where the Protagonist pushes the antagonist in the car and kidnaps her.Where is will be parked in a disabled place so that her real identity is relieved.

Draft Location Notes and Images ( Elizabeth Mensah-Tandoh )

The location that we have chosen to film our 2 minute opening sequence to a thriller is in the college inside the building inside the corridor as the women is walking out of her class. The reason for this is for the audience to have a clear view of where the women is located and what is happening.

The second image is just outside the class the class room doors.Where the disabled women bumps into Shenna and drops her books and bags. The reason this was done was because ther is a corner at the side and it makes it more realstic when she drops her things as both of them are unable to see another.

The third image is of the sliding doors of where the two actors will be leaving to make there way to the car park.

The last place that we will be filming is at the car park. This is where the Protagonist pushes the antagonist in the car and kidnaps her.Where is will be parked in a disabled place so that her real identity is unknown.

Costume and Props (Elizabeth Mensah-Tandoh)

The type of clothing our character Sandra will be wearing is casual clothes.Such as jeans,a top and simple pump shoes. The reason for this is because these sorts of clothes fit in with her role of the film.If she was to wear anything else it will no fit in the role s because of this it helps for our audience not to know what is going to happen next and will put them in suspense and come across as being a vulnerable, innocent disabled women that is seeking help from the public.

The wheel chair also used so that the Protagonist comes across as being vulnerable, and fragile. This also helps to create great suspense for characters as our target audience thought of a women being disabled will be,unable, fragile, needy and to have a disabled women in a wheelchair makes great suspense while the audience watch as they will already have a general stereotypes of the disabled woman.

The use of a car will be another use of a prop that we will be using in our opening sequence. The reason for this is when the protagonist pushes the antagonist into the car. The use of this prop helps to put the audience in more suspense when it is relieved to the audience that the women in the wheelchair is actually not disabled but in fact very much able. The car will just help our opening sequence to be better.

Preliminary Evaluation (Audrey Khayne)

In order to get the hang of using the filming equipment and also to help us to generate ideas for our final 2minute film sequence, we were instructed to film a preliminary task in which we had to include match on action, shot reverse shot and the 180 degree rule. We were sown examples of other preliminary tasks on Youtube to give us insight into the task ahead of us. After viewing the example I had the impression that filming the task was going to be easy until we started filming, I discovered that it was not as easy as it seemed. Overall this task has helped me get used to the filming equipment, has given me the filming experience, also as the group editor it has helped me learn how to use the editing software so I can edit our final film.

About The Preliminary Task ( Elizabeth Mensah-Tandoh)

The Preliminary task was the first piece of camera work that i did. When we was put into groups and assigned to do this task i felt it was important for me to take role as the camera person. The reason for this was because when my media group eventually begin to film our opening sequence to our film.I will be taking the role as the camerawomen. And was accentual for me to get some practice while i could. It allowed me to learn more about the camera, the different buttons there were, the various camera that would be available to us and how i could position the camera at different angles. These were just some of the things i needed to learn and get practice in before we filming. There are various things I learnt when you film.Patience being one of the most important. And this is what i found was virtual with the actors when they forgot there lines,as well as when when had to change angles when wanted to shot from.It was also very important for me memorize the angles and shots there were as the director or an individual in the group may have a different idea from what we had previously placed as.So two days before we filmed the preliminary task i had to revise all the angles and shots there were. However my preliminary group was very hardworking and dedicated want hen mistakes where made.We all insured to just do the best we could and continued filming till it was filmed correctly.

When it came to editing our preliminary task my group was all shown by our teacher the ways we could edit, how we could add score music and add different affects we could add to the filming. However i felt this was too challenging for me to do and felt that i was taking up to much time trying to get use to the editing software. So another member in my group that had previously done editing took charge of it. I sat beside her and gave her assistant of the different shots i had used while filmingand what ideas i thought would make the editing looking a lot more better.

Overall it made me have a lot more confidence when i came to using the camera. As the preliminary was the first piece of filming i have ever done i found it extremely exciting and bits of it challenging. However i feel there is a lot more i could learn about the cameras which i am hoping to learn in the next following weeks.

Weekly Update (Week 3-4) (Georgia Harris)

In this week's night class we finished editing our preliminary task, and uploaded it to Youtube.
This week we have also completed and uploaded our Brainstorm, our group member pictures, added more information to the codes and conventions of a thirller.
Our main focus now is getting our cast/location pictures and note, and the still images for our storyboard to then start filming our sequence.

Friday 29 January 2010

Weekly Update (Week 2) (Georgia Harris)

This week in both our night session and our Friday lesson, we re-filmed our Preliminary task and completed it, and are now in the progress of editing it, so we can upload it onto our blog. We also learnt more about the filming equipment that will be used and the way in which we must use it. Also we went into detail on how to apply the 180 degree rule and match on action when filming.

In our Friday lesson, we finally filled in each member of our groups responsibilities and tasks that have to be completed, in order for the filming to go ahead.

Target Audience Research (Georgia Harris & Mensah-Tandoh)

We have chosen to aim our trailer at a 15+, mainly female dominated audience.
Our reasons for choosing this is because it's setting is based in a college, where the people are aged between 16 and up, so it will allow the audience to relate easily. Also the main character is female, so the females of the audience can also relate to the typical, everyday college student.
Also the socio-economic group which our target audience will fit into will be working class citizens, every-day people living in average housing, and working a Monday to Friday 9-5 job.

We have chosen this particular group, again so the audience will relate to the characters and gain an easier understanding of the situation and the living environments in which they live and socialise within. One being going to a college a person from this background is able to identify themselves as they may live the same life styles, wear the same clothes and have be able to have access to the same facilies they see throughout the film

Name:Iffhra
Age:17 Years old
Interests:Singing, church, friend and family, studying, music, nightsout, watching films and shopping
Dislikes: Long lessons, liars, not getting her own way, disappointment,
The reason i have asked Iffhra these questions, is because i feel Iffhra is a good representaion of the type of people, that we are targeting to watch our opening film sequence. She has strong believes and strong opinions about the things she likes and dislikes. She also comes from the same social-economic background of the people that shown on our film.We as a group also feel that she is like them and can relate to the way they are.

Treatment (Audrey Khanye)

Product:
We are going to be filming the 2-minute opening sequence of our film called the: "The Replacement" as our product, which is based on the genre thriller. After or during our filming period we plan to market our film campaign using various methods such as advertising which will help our trailer reach a wide audience as we will be advertising our products on many platforms e.g. through the radio, TV, newspaper, and the internet. Using social networking sites such as Facebook and Youtube (on the internet) is vital to our campaign as our target audience are ages 16+, this age group is the most likely to be using these sites.
Also globalisation will allow our product to reach audiences world wide

Target audience:
We aim to target a wide audience of teenagers and adults ranging from 16+, also a mainly female dominated audience. Our reasons for this is because the setting is based in a college, where the people are aged between 16 and above, so it will allow the audience to relate easily. Also the main character is female, so the females of the audience can also relate to the typical, everyday college student. Also the socio-economic group which our target audience will fit into will be working class citizens, every-day people living in average housing, and working a Monday to Friday 9-5 job.

In order to find out more in formation about our audience and also to get some feedback about our film I posted a created a face book group, and put together questionnaire for them to fill in. My questionnaire asked questions such as: are the antagonist and the protagonist clear in this film? Is our story line easy to follow?
What did you like most about our movie? Etc.

Institution
Our production’s logo is called Twisted productions. Our product will be distributed via the internet and it's mediums such as Facebook and Youtube

Genre

Software Used ( Elizabeth Mensah-Tandoh)

There will be various types of softwares that will need to use through out blog. One of them being Scribd. Scribd is a software that we have got use to using as it has helped layout or script better. At first we was not sure how to use it. However it was interesting as it made our script look a lot more professional than just writing it down on the blog. Another being Final cut pro.

This is the first time for all of us in the group using this software. It took some time getting use to features as we found them challenging. However Audrey is doing the editing has practiced while editing the preliminary task and is now learning more about the software and the various features it will offer us when editing our final opening sequence.
The third software we will be using is soundtrack pro. Which was on of the most exciting as when learning it will help our portfolio and editing our filming.

Theory (Elizabeth Mensah-Tandoh)

I thought it essential for me to find about the influential French literally theorist Roland Barthes. He developed a theory that there are five major codes within a story that are interwoven in order to create meaning. Barthes had five codes,The first being.

A Hermeneutic Code- is something that is unexplained and which creates an unanswered question, often appearing at the beginning of the story, creating a tension that engages the audience.
Hermeneutic codes are at the root of all mysteries. act is shown and the remainder of the narrative is for answering questions raised by the event. And in order for the audience to remain interested the final truth is not revealed.

The Proairetic Code-The Proairetic Code also builds tension, referring to any other action or event that indicates something else is going to happen, and which hence gets the reader guessing as to what will happen next.
The Hermeneutic and Proairetic Codes work as a pair to develop the story's tensions and keep the reader interested. Barthes described them as,dependent on,two sequential codes. The revelation of truth and the coordination of the actions represented: there is the same constraint in the gradual order of melody and in the equally gradual order of the narrative sequence.

The Semantic Code-This code refers to connotation within the story that gives additional meaning over the basic denotative meaning of the word.It is by the use of extended meaning that can be applied to words that authors can paint rich pictures with relatively limited text and the way they do this is a common indication of their writing skills.

The Symbolic Code- which is very similar to the Semantic Code, but acts at a wider level, organizing semantic meanings into broader and deeper sets of meaning. This is done by the use of antithesis, where new meaning arises out of opposing and conflict ideas.

The Cultural Code-This code refers to anything that is founded on some kind of canonical works that cannot be challenged and is assumed to be a foundation for truth. This involves either science or religion, although other canons such as magical truths may be used in fantasy stories. The Gnomic Code is a cultural code that particularly refers to sayings, proverbs, clichés and other common meaning-giving word sets.

I learned all this information by looking at a powerpoint that my teacher gave me and also researching on various websites. So that was able to find out the real facts about Roland Barthes. This source of information has been helpful as it has actually really helpful to know when you are considering what to film.

BBFC Research (Audrey Khayne)

The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) is an independent, non-governmental body funded through the fees it charges to those who submit films and video works for classification. Here, and throughout the Guidelines, video works are taken to include video games, and films and programmes released on DVD or Blu-ray, or distributed by means of download or streaming on the internet. The BBFC classifies films on behalf of the local authorities who license cinemas under the Licensing Act 2003.

Our is actually targeted at 15+ the reason for this is because we as a group feel that the story line will be mentally understood by people of this age group.Although the story line is easy to follow. It will only be suitable for someone of this age.

Designer Research (Audrey Khanye)

A title sequence is the method by which cinematic films or television programs present their title, key production and cast members, or both, utilizing conceptual visuals and sound. It usually follows but should not be confused with the opening credits, which are generally nothing more than a series of superimposed text.
Saul Bass was born in May 8, 1920, in New York City. He studied at the Art Students League in Manhattan until attending classes with Gyorgy Kepes at Brooklyn College.
Saul Bass became widely known in the industry after creating the title sequence for Otto Preminger's The Man with the Golden Arm (1955). The subject of the film was a jazz musician's struggle to overcome his heroin addiction, a taboo subject in the mid-'50s. Bass decided to create a contentious title sequence to match the film's controversial subject. He chose the arm as the central image, as the arm is a strong image relating to drug addiction. The titles featured an animated, black paper cut-out arm of a heroin addict. As he expected, it caused quite a stir.
He designed title sequences for 40 years, for films as diverse as Spartacus (1960), The Victors (1963), It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963) and Casino (1995). All of which feature new and ground-breaking methods of production and startling graphic design.

Title Sequence ( Elizabeth Mensah-Tandoh )

A title sequence is the method by which cinematic films or television programs present their title, key production and cast members, or both, utilizing conceptual visuals and sound. It usually follows but should not be confused with the opening credits, which are generally nothing more than a series of superimposed text.

The first important facts i have learnt from my research title sequencing is the way the names of the people involved in the filming comes in various stages.I watched the beginning of different thriller films and two horror films to see if there was a difference on the layout or the stages of the credits.i felt this was important for me to analyze thriller films as they are under the same genre as the opening sequence of our film.

From the research i have done i have found out the different stages of the ways a opening title sequence come in,the order the cast names, the directors, the creators logo, who the film was associated with and whom the film is by.

One of the film i analyzed closely was the film obsessed. The reason for this being is i feel that target the same age category as we are.I found there is a sequence in which the films come in.The first element that was shown was the company 'Screen Gems' there logo was shown. The second was 'Rain forest film production'this was the second logo that was shown..

Then when the title sequence began to show both of the companies names appeared again.Screen gems presents obsessed.I wanted to find out more about the company and did some small research on both of the companies so that i was able to see what each company specialized in.Screen Gems is an American subsidiary company of Sony Pictures Entertainment's Columbia TriStar Motion Picture Group that has served several different purposes for its parent companies over the decades since its incorporation. Here is a small portion of some of the research i was able to find.
Rain forest films production tend to supported a lot of black African,American originated films.Such as Stomp the yard,This Christmas,Three can play that game. All the films i have listed are all well known films that Rain forest has produced. And as obsessed story line is about a successful hard working black man rain forest film production have had some production involved.

The following elements are the logos and the repetitions of the production names is the title of the film..

The second being the actor and actresses names. This is done to rises awareness to the audience who will be starring in the film.Although this is a short list of the title sequence in the beginning of the film. However there is much longer list of the individuals and people who participated in the making of the film.
Starting with the cast members names along side their real names. All of the people that were shown on the camera any time throughout the film are shown. Then followed by participants behind the scenes.Secondly being the co-producer,the the production mangers and department team. Then followed by assistants and supervisors that helped in particular areas. The the writing and script of the film and imagery of the scenery, costume and props for the actors and actresses. Then ending with the effects that are ended after filming,Such as the editors.visual effect mangers.

This is the list of the title sequence for the film Obsessed.Making sure that the title sequence for the both the beginning and end of the films i have included both so that it is easy to distinguish the difference between the two.

Synopsis for our 2 Minute Trailer (Georgia Harris)

The start of this 2 minute sequence begins with Natalie (protagonist) walking out of a lesson, down the corridor towards the exit. As she is about to go through a set of double doors, she hears a book drop and turns to see a lady in a wheelchair who has dropped her books and she goes to get the book. Then Natalie offers to help her carry her books to the car that is waiting for her. Once they have reached the car park, it becomes clear that there is something strange going on, that being that the disabled girl isn't actually disabled and isn't actually the victim. In fact she has been planning to kidnap Natalie for a while. She has been wanting to kidnap Natalie because she lost her daughter 18 years ago and have never got over it and therefore want someone who resembles the looks that her daughter would have now.

Thriller: Genre Research (Georgia Harris)

The thriller genre includes numerous and over-lapping of sub-genres. They are well known by their fast pacing, frequent action and resourceful heroes who are often realistic and at a standard that the audience can relate too. The heroes often have skills that they are unaware of or cannot use effectively.

-Thriller's also enable the audience to discover the main drive of the plot at the same time as the hero, so we can feel as though we are seeing the action unfold through their eyes. This helping us to engage both intellectually and emotionally.
-They also include many enigma's (question's placed in the audience's minds) which are either then answered or not as the narrative progresses.
-The hero is often isolated due to his/her knowledge or skill which alienates him/her from their loved ones and friends. They also tend to have flaws, they aren't perfect and their flaw/s are often exploited by the villain. These conventions of the hero allow the audience to believe in the characters and sympathise, which again helps them to emotionally engage.
-Also the endings aren't often happy, the combination of danger and the heroes flaw overcome them.
-Thriller's are based around mystery and investigation, as well suspense. With cliffhangers and red herring's
-Thrillers often take place wholly or partly in exotic settings such as foreign cities, deserts, polar regions, or high seas.
